Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s hit single “Luther” has now spent 11 consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, moving closer to breaking a major hip-hop chart record.
Although the pair didn’t plan their tour around the success of the song, the timing has proven to be a fortunate coincidence. Since “Luther” first reached No. 1, the track has consistently remained a chart-topping force.
During its run, the song has already made history. It became the first collaboration by two solo artists to remain at No. 1 for ten straight weeks. This achievement broke a decades-old record held by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie’s 1981 duet “Endless Love,” which led the chart for nine weeks.
With this milestone, Lamar and SZA joined an elite group—only 4% of songs in Hot 100 history have spent ten or more weeks at No. 1.
Now, “Luther” is just one week away from tying Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” which spent 12 weeks at No. 1. Billboard also notes that Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” held the top spot for 11 weeks, making Lamar and SZA’s song equally historic.
Current chart metrics show strong performance across the board. Between April 25 and early May, “Luther” recorded 67.9 million radio airplay impressions (a 1% decrease from the previous week), 20.5 million official streams (down 6%), and 2,000 digital sales (up 4%) in the U.S.
As it stands, the song could challenge the all-time record of 19 weeks at No. 1, currently held by “Old Town Road” and “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
Streaming numbers remain strong, and Lamar’s popularity shows no sign of slowing down. Meanwhile, both artists are currently on the Grand National Tour. Mustard, who produced “Not Like Us” and worked on other tracks from the GNX project, is also part of the tour. The world tour is set to conclude on August 9 in Stockholm.
