Rising rapper Doechii has been named Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year. The 26-year-old artist, whose critically acclaimed mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal won Best Rap Album at this year’s Grammys, will be honored at the Billboard Women in Music Awards later this month.
Doechii joins a prestigious group of past honorees, including Taylor Swift, SZA, Lady Gaga, and last year’s recipient, Karol G. This recognition comes just one month after Doechii became only the third woman in history to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album. She made history alongside legends like Lauryn Hill and Cardi B.
During her Grammy acceptance speech, Doechii reflected on the significance of the category, stating, “This category was introduced in 1989. Two women have won… (Correcting herself) Three women have won. Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and Doechii.”
She will receive the Woman of the Year award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards on March 29. Past honorees include stars like Madonna, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande.
Hannah Karp, Editor-in-Chief of Billboard, praised Doechii’s impact on the music world, saying, “Doechii is taking pop culture by storm. Doechii’s breakout mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal has made waves in the music industry, featuring standout singles like “Nissan Altima,” “Boom Bap,” and the viral hit “Denial Is A River.”
Other award recipients at the Billboard Women in Music Awards include aespa, Ángela Aguilar, Erykah Badu, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Jennie of Blackpink, Megan Moroney, Meghan Trainor, Muni Long, and Tyla.
The awards ceremony will take place at the YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park in Los Angeles, hosted by Laverne Cox.
