Scottish Borders Council Leader Releases Rap Song

by Patria

The leader of Scottish Borders Council, Conservative Councillor Euan Jardine, is set to release a new rap song titled Little Man. The track includes references to the south of Scotland and reflects his personal experiences.

Performing under the name Euan J, Jardine has led the council since 2022. He says that writing lyrics helps him manage stress and hopes his music will encourage others to express their creativity and pursue their passions.

“Don’t get put in a box or fall into stereotypes,” Jardine said. “I’m five foot one. I used to play basketball and run. Why can’t I rap?”

He acknowledges that some might be surprised by a council leader making a rap track. “I’m sure some will say they didn’t have it on their bingo card for 2025, but this is who I am. I’m not hiding who I am.”

Jardine also wants to challenge common misconceptions about rap music. “Rap gets a really bad rep. Many people think it’s violent, but it’s not. Rap is one of the purest forms of lyricism in the world, if not the purest, for me.”

Alongside Little Man, Jardine plans to release an album called Shepherd’s Son. He explained, “My dad was a shepherd. I’m also a Christian, and Jesus is a shepherd. The album will be introspective. Hopefully, I’ll have the chance to perform at venues like the MacArts or Volunteer Hall soon.”

Little Man will be available on Spotify from Friday, 23 May.
