NYPD Detective Removed From Cases for Playing a Stripper in a Rap Video

by Patria

A New York Police Department (NYPD) Detective is under investigation after her involvement in a music video led to her cases being put on hold. Melissa Mercado, assigned to the Bronx and a member of the Special Victims Unit, appeared as a stripper in the video for the song “Doin’ That” by rapper S-Quire.

The story began to gain attention when a viral video surfaced showing Mercado dancing on a stripper pole in a G-string. The clip raised questions about her activities outside of her role as a police officer. TMZ confirmed that Mercado’s cases are now on hold as she faces scrutiny over potential misconduct.

Mercado, who has been with the NYPD since 2018, earns $144,000 annually. However, reports suggest she has been making additional income by acting in music videos. One key issue under investigation is whether Mercado followed the proper procedure by notifying the department and obtaining permission to hold a second job. In New York City, police officers are required to submit paperwork for approval if they intend to work outside of their official duties. Failing to do so could be a violation of department rules.

Rapper S-Quire and his team told TMZ that Mercado was referred to them by a casting agency, and they were unaware of her role as an officer. However, retired NYPD Special Victims Division Chief Michael Osgood criticized Mercado’s actions, calling them “unbecoming” of a police officer. He also expressed concern over the morality of a special victims detective engaging in such public behavior.

Eric Sanders, another retired officer, echoed Osgood’s sentiment, stating that Mercado should face discipline for actions that conflict with the values she vowed to uphold when joining the force.
