Spin Doctors Return with Surprise Single “Still A Gorilla” and New Album

After a 12-year hiatus, iconic Nineties jam band Spin Doctors are back with fresh music. The band, known for their 1991 debut Pocket Full of Kryptonite and hits like “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong” and “Two Princes,” is set to release their new album Face Full of Cake. Alongside the album announcement, they’ve dropped the new single “Still A Gorilla,” a track that blends the band’s signature sound with a surprising twist.

Although the band claims inspiration from Robyn’s 2005 track “Konichiwa Bitches,” the influence doesn’t quite make its mark in the new song. Instead, “Still A Gorilla” is driven by a fuzzed-out riff that recalls the band’s past power-pop energy while offering a refreshing departure from their commercial decline in the mid-Nineties. Frontman Chris Barron’s half-spoken vocals in the track even evoke a striking resemblance to David Lee Roth’s signature style.

Barron promises fans will be impressed with the album, describing it as a mix of “ear candy” and “denser material,” harking back to their earlier work, but with the added experience of years in the industry. Spin Doctors are set to celebrate the release with an album launch party at Brooklyn Bowl on April 12, alongside several other tour dates throughout the year.
