Hailey Whitters, the Iowa-born singer-songwriter based in Nashville, has released her deeply emotional new single, “Casseroles”, marking her first major release in nearly two years. Available now through Pigasus Records, Big Loud Records, and Songs & Daughters, the track delves into themes of grief and the healing that follows loss.
Written alongside her close collaborators Hillary Lindsey, Tom Douglas, and James Slater, “Casseroles” poignantly captures the sorrow of losing a loved one while offering a glimmer of hope for what comes after. For Whitters, the song is especially personal. Reflecting on her own experience of losing her brother unexpectedly 13 years ago, she shares how the song hit close to home.
“I remember everyone bringing casseroles over when I lost my brother, and I couldn’t eat for days because I was so distraught,” Whitters explains. “It made me think about what happens when the casseroles stop coming, and everyone else has moved on, but you feel like you never will.”
The song’s raw lyrics and melody express the heaviness of grief while offering a sense of healing. Whitters hopes “Casseroles” resonates with those in need of comfort, carrying a message of enduring hope amidst the heartache.
