Renowned musician Bruce Springsteen, affectionately known as ‘The Boss’ and aged 74, is poised to make history as the first international artist to be inducted as a fellow of Britain’s prestigious Ivors Academy. This honor places him among esteemed figures like Sir Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, Joan Armatrading, and Sting, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career. The announcement of this accolade came on Tuesday (26.03.24) from the Ivors Academy, an institution that celebrates the finest songwriters and composers in the UK.

Expressing his pride in this recognition, Bruce Springsteen remarked, “In addition to recognizing my songwriting, the award stands as a tribute to the fans and friends who have supported me and my work for the last 50 years. This entire country has made me feel welcome every step of the way, and for this, I will always remain deeply appreciative.”

Tom Gray, Chair of the Ivors Academy, emphasized Bruce’s exceptional storytelling ability, stating, “There is no one more fitting than Bruce Springsteen to be the first international songwriter inducted into our fellowship. Songwriters are powerful storytellers, who capture our lives, loves, and hardships. Bruce has always told the greatest stories. The fellowship marks the esteem in which he is held by all those who share his craft.”

As an Academy Fellow, Bruce Springsteen will receive the highest honor bestowed by the Ivors Academy, a testament to his immense impact on the music industry. With over 140 million records sold worldwide, Bruce’s achievements include 20 Grammy Awards, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. He has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.

The Ivors, established in 1956, hold a special significance in music, as they are judged by award-winning songwriters and composers. Previous winners include Adele, Stormzy, RAYE, Little Simz, Cathy Dennis, Annie Lennox, Amy Winehouse, and John Lennon, reflecting the prestigious nature of this recognition.

To celebrate Bruce Springsteen’s induction as an Academy Fellow, a limited edition vinyl of ‘The Best of Bruce Springsteen’ in a ‘Jersey Devil Red’ shade is available for purchase on Amazon. The upcoming Ivors nominees will be announced on Tuesday, April 23, with the winners revealed at The Ivors with Amazon Music at Grosvenor House in London a month later.
