US extreme metal band Ominous Ruin has released a new music video for their latest track, ‘Eternal’, which premiered on April 25, 2025. The video arrives ahead of the band’s upcoming album, Requiem, due out May 9, 2025, via Willowtip Records.
‘Eternal’ follows the group’s earlier singles ‘Seeds of Entropy’ and ‘Staring Into the Abysm’, and marks the latest work featuring new vocalist Crystal Rose.
In a statement, the band explained their creative approach to the new video:
“There were a few goals behind the ‘Eternal’ music video. First, we wanted to highlight the powerful performances of each member. This song is such a unique ripper—everyone gets their moment. Second, we focused on expressing the song’s lyrical themes, particularly tension and emotional strain. And finally, we aimed to showcase the musical details that make this track stand out.”
Reflecting on Requiem, the band added:
“We see this album as a major step forward, both musically and emotionally. Requiem explores the human mind, the damage caused by time, and the slow fall into oblivion. It was born out of personal struggles during a dark chapter in the band’s life.”
Bay Area Roots and Evolution
Ominous Ruin formed in 2010 in the Bay Area, a region known for its rich death metal history. The band originally included guitarist Alex Bacey, bassist Mitch Yoesle, and vocalist Adam Rosado. In the early years, they struggled to find a consistent drummer until Harley Blandford joined, bringing technical skill and creative energy. Soon after, guitarist Joel Guernsey came on board, adding intricate and atmospheric guitar work to the band’s sound.
The band’s evolution continued in 2023 with the arrival of vocalist Crystal Rose, following Rosado’s departure. Rose’s entry marked a new era for Ominous Ruin. Her powerful vocal range—from deep growls to piercing screams—brought a fresh identity to the band and helped them break beyond the underground metal scene.
A New Sound with Requiem
Ominous Ruin blends technical, melodic, and brutal death metal with black metal influences. Their music draws inspiration from acts like Necrophagist, Spawn of Possession, Behemoth, and Nile. With Requiem, the band shifts toward a more atmospheric and melodic style. This marks a change from their earlier, more traditional death metal sound and reflects a broader, more experimental approach to songwriting.
As they prepare to release Requiem, Ominous Ruin stands at a new peak. Backed by Crystal Rose’s standout vocals and a refined musical vision, the band continues to push the boundaries of extreme metal.
Whatever lies ahead, Ominous Ruin is determined to make a lasting impact. With their fearless creativity and commitment to exploring the darkest parts of the human condition, the band is poised to become a major force in the metal world.
