Key Glock has enough unreleased material for another collaborative tape with late mentor Young Dolph, but he’s hesitant to release it. While his recent album Glockaveli has garnered strong reviews, the Memphis rapper shared that revisiting past collaborations with Dolph feels painful.
In an interview on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast, Key Glock opened up about the emotional toll of working with Dolph’s posthumous material. When asked about the possibility of a new joint project or more collaborative tracks, Glock explained that it’s not something he plans to pursue at the moment.
“I want to do another collab tape, of course,” Glock said, reflecting on his work with Dolph. “But it just won’t feel the same. It will bring me back to the past, and it won’t make me happy. Fans won’t understand the emotional weight of it. I’d put in so much work to make it something Dolph would’ve wanted, but it would leave a huge hole in me. I’m not ready to deal with that right now.”
Glock also touched on his grieving process, revealing he prefers to handle personal losses privately. “I don’t really tap into my losses or loved ones too much. I like to deal with that on my own,” he shared.
The duo’s collaboration history includes two full-length projects: Dum and Dummer (2019), which went Gold, and its sequel released in 2021. Tragically, that year also marked Young Dolph’s death after a shooting in Memphis.
While there could be more posthumous releases, such as Dolph’s feature on the “Let’s Go” remix, it appears Glock wants to avoid rushing into emotionally charged projects. For now, he’s focused on his own work.
Meanwhile, Glock’s album Glockaveli, along with its deluxe edition, is doing well. The album is projected to sell around 33,000 units in its first week and is expected to debut in the top ten of the Billboard 200 albums chart.
