A fresh and exciting addition to the Netherlands’ festival scene is on the horizon. Dutch promoters Friendly Fire and 013 Poppodium are teaming up to introduce Headlines, a new indoor hip-hop festival set to debut on May 10 at Tilburg’s 2,000-capacity venue.

Headlines promises to showcase the “alternative, left-field side of hip-hop,” filling a gap in the market for festivals that celebrate more unconventional styles within the genre. The festival aims to bring together curious fans and introduce them to new sounds, with a focus on hip-hop’s diverse and evolving landscape.

Friendly Fire, known for successful events like Best Kept Secret, and 013 Poppodium, which organizes major gatherings like Roadburn and Woo Hah!, are behind this exciting venture. Together, they bring extensive experience in hosting large-scale events, with 013 attracting over 350,000 visitors annually to its 375+ shows.

Co-founders Rens Peters and Elvin Usidame explained that the idea for Headlines stemmed from a noticeable gap in the Dutch festival market. “There are very few festivals in the Netherlands that provide a stage for these artists, despite high demand,” said Peters. Usidame added, “With Headlines, we want to highlight this part of the genre and introduce new sounds to hip-hop fans.”

Tickets for the event are priced at €43.80, with the lineup set to be revealed soon. This festival marks a milestone for Friendly Fire, who celebrated their 15th anniversary last year. Daan Holthuis, co-founder of Headlines and head of programming at 013 Poppodium, emphasized the importance of the event: “Tilburg is the ultimate hip-hop city in the Netherlands, and 013 has been repping the culture for 25 years. A festival like this has been missing, not just from our roster, but from the Dutch scene as a whole.”

The announcement of Headlines is a timely boost for the Netherlands’ festival scene, which saw more than 100 festivals vanish in 2024 due to cancellations and discontinuations, even as 46 new events emerged during the same period.
