Charli XCX turned the 2025 Grammy Awards into a vibrant celebration of hyperpop with a performance that was as unexpected as it was electrifying. The singer, known for her bold and boundary-pushing style, kicked off her set with a playful warning: “I’m going to perform the least Grammy-appropriate songs. Expect to be a little bit upset, honestly.”
True to her word, Charli took the stage with a flair for the dramatic. The performance began with a video intro, featuring Charli stepping out of a black van marked with “XCX” on the license plate. Draped in a fur coat and denim outfit, she sang her club anthem “Von Dutch” in an underground parking lot. But the energy really exploded when she moved to the main stage to perform her hit “Guess.”
Joined by Julia Fox, The Dare, and a lively crowd of friends, Charli’s performance saw undergarments tossed into the air as the “Brat” star crawled across the stage, encouraging wild energy from the crowd. Billie Eilish, who collaborated with Charli on “Guess,” even joined in from the audience.
Charli XCX entered the night with seven Grammy nominations, tying for the second-most of the evening alongside Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, and Post Malone. Among her nominations, she earned recognition in two of the top categories: Album of the Year for her electro-pop masterpiece Brat and Record of the Year for its single “360.” Additionally, songs from Brat were nominated in several other categories: “Apple” for Best Pop Solo Performance, the remix of “Von Dutch” for Best Dance Pop Recording, and her collaboration with Eilish, “Guess,” for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
These nominations marked Charli’s first Grammy nods as a solo artist. Her previous Grammy recognition came in 2015 when she was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside Iggy Azalea for their hit “Fancy.”
Following the release of Brat, Charli’s rise to prominence in 2024 has been unstoppable. With its signature lime-green cover and irresistible pop tracks, Brat dominated platforms like TikTok, Brooklyn, and year-end charts. Charli took the album on the road with Troye Sivan for their Sweat Tour and is set to bring her unique sound to stages across North America this year, including Coachella.
