Mississippi native Steve Azar is adding another achievement to his illustrious career, landing a spot on the Grammy-nominated children’s album Solid Rock Revival by Rock For Children. The album, which features Azar’s ballad “Our Castle is Your Home,” is up for Best Children’s Music Album at the 2024 Grammys, competing against artists like John Legend.
Known for his breakout country hit “I Don’t Have to Be Me (‘Til Monday),” which charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2001 and 2002, Azar’s Grammy nod comes from a completely different genre.
“They came to me and said, ‘We want you to be on it,’ and of course I was thrilled,” Azar said during a break from teaching at Delta State University’s Delta Music Institute in Cleveland. “And I’m the only ballad on the record, so I feel like I’m ‘Beth’ on a KISS record,” he added with a laugh, referring to KISS’s 1976 hit “Beth,” which stood out from their usual rock anthems.
In addition to his Grammy recognition, Azar continues to enjoy the success of his hit song “One Mississippi,” which was adopted as the official state song of Mississippi in 2022.
