Experimental pop duo Phantogram is preparing for a landmark performance at Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium on Wednesday, marking their first-ever appearance at the historic venue.
“We’ve heard it’s an epic, classic, historical venue,” said Josh Carter, one-half of the Los Angeles-based duo, during a recent Zoom interview. His bandmate Sarah Barthel shared that while they’ve performed in Nashville several times, including opening for Kings of Leon and Queens of the Stone Age, the Ryman has remained an elusive stage.
Phantogram, known for their ethereal electronica sound with hits like “Black Out Days” and “When I’m Small,” is currently on their Running Through Colors Tour, a 28-show run promoting their fifth studio album, Memory of a Day. The Ryman performance will feature an opening set from GLU, the solo project of Queens of the Stone Age bassist Michael Shuman. The duo’s show will be a highly anticipated stop on their tour, offering Nashville fans a chance to experience the group’s unique blend of experimental pop and electronic rock in one of the city’s most revered venues.
