Rock band Grand Slam has released their latest single and video, “Pirate Song,” an energetic and multifaceted anthem featuring a whimsical video that captures the band members in pirate-style escapades on the open seas.
The track was born from a chance encounter during a filming trip in Greece. Laurence Archer, the band’s founding guitarist, recounts how he connected with a local musician who introduced him to the traditional Greek songs, many of which tell tales of piracy and smuggling. Inspired by the melodies and rhythms, Archer crafted the song with a unique twist, using his guitar in a new way to evoke the spirit of the sea.
Vocalist Mike Dyer shared his excitement about the recording process, revealing that “Pirate Song” marked his first-ever live, one-take vocal performance on a demo—a feat he had long admired in other artists. “I’ve always wanted to nail a one-take vocal, just like Daryl Hall,” Dyer said. The song was later finished in Guadeloupe, a French Caribbean island, where the band was reunited while Archer was filming for Death in Paradise.
With its infectious tune and spirited vibe, “Pirate Song” sets the tone for the band’s upcoming European tour, where fans can look forward to more high-energy rock anthems.
