Aotearoa indie-rock band Daily J is gearing up for the release of their highly anticipated album SCATTERBRAINS, dropping February 21. To give fans a preview of what’s to come, the band has just released their latest single, “Cheap Tequila Sunrise.”
Infused with a classic rock vibe, the track features energetic stomping drums and bass, while the uplifting, catchy chorus ties the song together. Lyrically, “Cheap Tequila Sunrise” reflects a longing for the simplicity and freedom of youth. “It’s a reflection on what it was like to be a kid before life got too complicated,” the band shares. “It’s about escaping the daily grind and dreaming of a better place.”
The accompanying video, shot on 16mm film, captures the essence of nostalgia with a dreamy “day-in-a-life” vibe, celebrating life’s small joys while hinting at a deeper yearning for something pure and untainted—much like the innocence of childhood.
“Cheap Tequila Sunrise” is the fourth single from SCATTERBRAINS, following hits like “Tastes Like Forever,” “Sunday Stitches,” and “Happy Slides.” These tracks have already amassed nearly one million streams on Spotify and earned radio play on BBC Radio 1.
With their signature blend of catchy indie-rock and pop sensibilities, Daily J is preparing to deliver an album full of relatable, heartfelt anthems. “We love writing about what we’re feeling and tackling relatable topics,” the band says. “We hope that connects with our listeners.”
Following their success in New Zealand and abroad, Daily J will be hitting the stage on their SCATTERBRAINS NZ Tour, performing at San Fran in Wellington on March 21 and Powerstation in Auckland on March 28. Known for their electrifying live shows, the band continues to cement its place as one of New Zealand’s top indie acts.
