Singer-songwriter Charlie Puth has credited Taylor Swift for encouraging him to release his new single, “Hero.” The 32-year-old musician took to Instagram on Tuesday to express his gratitude to Swift, who gave him a shout-out in her latest album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ released in April.

In her album, Swift sings, “We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist,” a line that Puth revealed inspired his decision to share his new song with the world. “I’ve never put out a song like this before,” Puth wrote in his Instagram post. “It’s very different for me, but I want to thank @taylorswift for letting me know musically that I just couldn’t keep this on my hard drive any longer.”

Puth also shared the personal meaning behind “Hero,” which is set to be released on Friday. “My new song ‘HERO’ is about when you see someone you love hurting themselves, ruining the things in their life that are good, but you just can’t save them,” he explained. “It’s one of the hardest songs I’ve ever had to write, but I wrote it in hopes that if you’ve gone through something similar in your life, it can fill in the BLANK for you like it did for me.”

The “We Don’t Talk Anymore” hitmaker expressed his excitement about sharing his upcoming album, noting that “Hero” serves as a significant preview of what’s to come. “I’m very excited to share my next album with you, especially this song because it’s a great representation of what’s to come,” he added.

Puth has not released an album since his self-titled third studio album, ‘Charlie,’ in 2022. Fans eagerly anticipate the new music, spurred on by the powerful endorsement from one of pop music’s biggest stars.
