Country music legend Marty Stuart brought his unique blend of rockabilly, country rock, and bluegrass to Habersham County this weekend. The five-time Grammy Award winner was the headline act at the 8th annual Cornelia Music Fest.
The festival took place at the site of the city’s new amphitheater, attracting hundreds of people from across Northeast Georgia to Cornelia. Attendees set up lawn chairs and spread blankets on the freshly graded grounds, where the city hopes to become a popular spot for outdoor entertainment. On May 17, for the eighth year in a row, Cornelia delivered with a lineup featuring local performers and a major headliner, all part of its free annual music festival.
Brian and Buffy Evans traveled 45 miles from Hartwell to see Marty Stuart and his band, The Fabulous Superlatives. Other performers included Headed South, Katie Deal, Michele Little, and Holding Ghosts.
Many concertgoers shared their excitement on social media. Anna Stanfield wrote, “Now this is the country up here. Great people watching!”
J.D. Shirkes said, “I’ve loved Marty Stuart my whole life, and I brought my family. My brother is here, and this has been a great experience for all of us.”
Sherri and Alex Head from Braselton enjoyed the performance by Katie Deal with the Country River Band. They said, “Nothing like good music and small-town charm to make for a perfect day!”
Besides the music, organizers held a car show in the parking lot at Cornelia’s Historic Train Depot. Classic cars attracted both auto enthusiasts and curious visitors.
The day ended with a free fireworks display, capping off a memorable Cornelia Music Fest.
