Laura Dern has expressed her confidence in Taylor Swift’s directorial abilities as the pop star prepares to make her debut feature film.
Swift recently signed a deal with Searchlight Pictures to helm her first movie, building on her experience directing her own music videos. Dern, who appeared in one of these videos, “Bejewelled,” alongside the Haim sisters, praised Swift’s talent behind the camera.
“She is the real deal,” the Oscar-winning actress shared on The Wrap’s UnWrappped podcast. “In addition to all her other amazing talents, she is a genuine filmmaker, as I had the pleasure of witnessing firsthand. I am eager to see this aspect of her career evolve and expand.”
Dern, 57, also expressed her willingness to be part of Swift’s film, stating, “I’m ready to join her wherever she wants to go. I admire her immensely.”
While specific details such as the cast, plot, and release date remain undisclosed, Swift’s ongoing Eras tour indicates that the project is in progress. Searchlight Pictures confirmed that Swift has written an original script for the film.
“Taylor Swift is a rare artist and storyteller of her generation,” remarked Searchlight Presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield in a statement from 2022. “We are thrilled to collaborate with her on this exciting new creative venture.”
