As the curtain falls on 2023, Jimin of BTS is gifting fans a special treat with his latest solo track, ‘Closer Than This,’ set to be released on Friday, December 22, 2023.

In a statement released on Weverse, BigHit expressed, “As we approach the final days of 2023, we hope that ‘Closer Than This,’ with its lyrics conveying Jimin’s love and affection for his fans, will bring you hope and warmth.”

The 28-year-old K-Pop sensation, who garnered acclaim with his debut solo album ‘Face’ in March, achieved significant milestones as the five-track collection shattered sales records on its opening day, surpassing the one-million-copy mark.

Despite his solo success, Jimin recently disclosed that he initially lacked the ambition to join BTS. On a recent episode of Suga’s ‘Suchwita’ talk show, Jimin credited his bandmate, Suga, 30, for inspiring him to become part of the renowned group, alongside Jungkook, 26, V, 27, Jin, 31, RM, 29, and j-hope, also 29.

Reflecting on the turning point, Jimin shared, “When I first joined the agency as a trainee, I didn’t have any ambition to be on the team, because I didn’t think it was my team. But it was because of you [Suga] that I changed my mind.”

He recounted a pivotal moment during their trainee days, saying, “I still remember the lights were off, and we were in our beds. I think we woke up because Namjoon was snoring, and you were on the top bunk. As you looked down towards me, and you said, ‘You’re a good singer, so I really want you to be on our team.’ That was when my ambition sparked.”

Suga corroborated Jimin’s recollection, explaining that he recognized Jimin’s unique vocal qualities early on. He stated, “I knew what your tone and your voice would sound like when you sang. No one else on the team had that tone, [so] I felt that you could become a singer with a unique voice. I already knew, so that’s why I said that. I said, ‘He should be singing, why are you making him rap when he can’t even rap?’”
