The Rolling Stones Storm Ahead With ‘Hackney Diamonds’ For A Landmark 14th No. 1 Album

The Rolling Stones are on the verge of a major career milestone as their brand new album, Hackney Diamonds, rockets to number one on the Official Albums Chart.

The album, the Stones’ first original album in almost two decades, sold more than 55,000 copies over the weekend.

It would be the 14th UK No. 1 album for Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, and their first since the death of longtime drummer Charlie Watts in 2021. Only the Beatles, with 15 number 1 albums, have more.

American pop-punk idols blink-182 are poised to debut at No. 2 with their ninth album, ONE MORE TIME…, their first with vocalist Tom DeLonge since he split from the band in 2015. It would be the sixth UK Top 10 album for the band, which also includes Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker.

With My Big Day (3), which would potentially be their highest-charting album in the UK since 2014’s chart-topping So Long, See You Tomorrow, Bombay Bicycle Club are on track for their fifth Top 10 album. Watch Bombay Bicycle Club’s discussion of My Big Day live on The Record Club this Wednesday.

An entirely new Top 5 would also be completed by Sheffield singer-songwriter Richard Hawley’s Now Then: The Very Best Of (4) and Barry Can’t Swim’s debut album When Will We Land? (5), possibly the electronic soloist’s first official album chart entry.

Acclaimed soul and R&B artist Sampha’s sophomore album Lahai is poised to debut at number 7, which would match the peak of his Mercury Prize-winning debut Process.

The Pet Shop Boys are looking for their 19th Top 10 album with Relentless, originally released as a companion EP to their chart-topping 1993 album Very (9), while Cher’s Christmas album could round out the Top 10 on Friday and give the pop legend her 11th Top 10 album.
