Earlier this month, at the Sonic Temple festival held at the Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, metal fans were asked to choose the ultimate dad rock band.

We have a strong interest in dad rock. You may remember our “March Dadness” bracket tournament from a few months ago. We asked readers to vote for the number one dad rock band. Metallica won, which was no surprise. This event was inspired by a study we found last year that ranked the top dad rock bands in every U.S. state.
We learned that people of different generations have different ideas about what counts as dad rock and which bands belong in that category. For example, classic rock bands like Led Zeppelin and The Beatles are usually linked to Baby Boomers. Meanwhile, younger bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Shinedown are considered dad rock by Gen Z fans.
