LSU Tigers star guard Flau’jae Johnson is not only one of the top college basketball players in the country — she is also a rising rapper. Known for her skills on the court, Johnson also makes music and even collaborated with hip-hop legend Lil Wayne on a song last year.
On May 9, Johnson released a new rap song titled Help Me on TikTok. About halfway through the track, she gave a shoutout to WNBA rookie and former Iowa standout Caitlin Clark with the line:
“Double-C on my jacket like Caitlin Clark.”
The reference quickly gained attention online, with many fans praising Johnson for showing love to her former on-court rival. Clark responded to the shoutout during an interview with USA Today’s Meghan L. Hall, published on May 21.
When asked if she would ever consider recording a song with Johnson, Clark laughed and replied,
“No. I would never. I would leave that to her.”
Still, Clark had nothing but kind words for Johnson’s music and talent.
“She’s incredible, but it was awesome,” Clark said. “Her music is really great. She’s so talented, and I’ve honestly been a really big fan of hers since we played them at LSU. I think her game is really good. It will be fun to watch her this last season in college.”
Clark added that Johnson had told her in advance that she planned to mention her in a song.
“She told me a while back, actually, that she was putting me in a song. So, I’ve kind of been waiting for it,” she said. “I know it takes a while to make music and get everything into production, but she wasn’t lying. She really did it. Yeah, she’s incredible. That was fun to see.”
Clark clearly appreciated the gesture. Given her growing popularity, it likely won’t be the last time her name appears in a song.
