NewJeans has earned a major award at a music ceremony in Japan.
Their single album OMG, featuring the song “Ditto,” won the “Best K-Pop Song in Japan” award at the Music Awards Japan 2025. The event took place on May 21 in Kyoto, Japan. NewJeans members include Minji, Hanni, Daniel, Haerin, and HAEIN.
Music Awards Japan is a ceremony created by five major local organizations, including the Recording Industry Association of Japan and several government agencies. The winners are chosen based on objective data such as rankings from Billboard Japan and Oricon charts, as well as votes from more than 5,000 music industry professionals.
Although “Ditto” was released on December 19, 2022, it won the award at this year’s ceremony. This shows that NewJeans’ music remains popular over time and across countries.
The song “Ditto” helped NewJeans achieve many new records. Just six months after debuting, they entered the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Official Singles Top 100 with this song. “Ditto” also spent an impressive 99 days in a row at number one on Melon, a major music site in South Korea. It topped Melon’s annual composite chart for 2023 and won the Excellence Award at Japan’s Record Awards the same year.
This award highlights NewJeans’ growing influence and lasting impact in the music world.
