After years performing as a member of K-pop boy group VICTON, LIM SEJUN is stepping into the spotlight alone. His first solo release, “SUMMER,” marks a new chapter under the label WAY BETTER.
SEJUN said that after completing group promotions, he was approached by several companies. However, he ultimately chose WAY BETTER because of its values.
“After finishing my group activities, I got calls from many companies,” SEJUN said. “But what made me choose WAY BETTER was that the two CEOs didn’t talk only about money. They spoke about dreams and the future.”
WAY BETTER was founded by former idols from20 and HELLO GLOOM, both of whom were once part of K-pop groups themselves. They created the company to build a space where artists could have creative freedom and support.
In an interview with FOX 13 in 2024, the two CEOs shared their thoughts about working with SEJUN.
“LIM SEJUN is a very talented artist,” said from20. “HELLO GLOOM and I always wanted to work with someone we could connect with personally. After our first meeting with SEJUN, we both said, ‘He’s really kind.’”
HELLO GLOOM added that SEJUN’s skills in singing, dancing, and acting made him a natural choice for the label.
Along with SEJUN, WAY BETTER also signed artists YYJ and KANG YUCHAN. SEJUN says he considers his labelmates like family.
“We all share the same drive to keep going with our music,” he said. “That’s the secret behind our friendship that fans see on social media.”
SEJUN recalled the moment he decided to join WAY BETTER. During his third meeting with the company, they played a demo of “SUMMER” and told him they believed the song was made for him.
“They said, ‘We should do this together.’ As I listened, it felt like my entire 20s were passing by,” SEJUN said. “I felt proud and confident. I’ve tried to hold on to that feeling ever since.”
As he moves forward in his solo career, SEJUN is also exploring a new sound. After picking up the guitar, he says he has grown interested in rock and acoustic music.
“I want to try band music and different acoustic styles involving guitar,” he said. This new direction marks a shift from the pop-heavy style he performed with VICTON.
Though his solo debut is recent, SEJUN already has an Asia tour lined up, with stops planned in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. He is looking forward to reuniting with longtime fans.
“I think of myself as a performer who brings energy to the stage,” SEJUN said. “Since joining WAY BETTER, I’ve worked hard to grow into a stronger, more complete artist.”
While a U.S. tour is not confirmed yet, SEJUN told FOX 13 that there may be good news ahead.
As he begins this next chapter, SEJUN expressed gratitude for the fans who have supported him through every step.
“Thank you for loving me all this time,” he said. “I became who I am today through your endless support, but also through hardships. There were tough moments and doubts, but what I remember most is your support. Thank you always. I hope you stay healthy and happy.”
