The International Klaipėda David Geringas Cello Competition took place at Lithuania’s Klaipėda Concert Hall. This event happens every two years and welcomes professional musicians and cello students from around the world who are 30 years old or younger.
The winners for 2025 were announced in different age groups:
Junior Category
Group A – up to age 10:
1st place (€400): Hannah Elisabeth Cao (Denmark)
2nd place (€300): Misheel Battuvshin (Mongolia)
3rd place (€200): Hanzhang Xin (China), Mingyu Wang (China)
Diplomas awarded to Sofija Narutavičiūtė and Sibilė Rukštelytė (both from Lithuania)
Group B – up to age 14:
1st place (€400): Franz Ludvig Serafin Kraggerud (Norway)
2nd place (€300): Tiago Suma (Romania), Alicia Arriaza (Spain)
3rd place (€200): Tristan Ilves (Estonia), Ray-Chinh Le (UK), Aleksandra Maria Tralla (Estonia)
Diplomas given to ten other participants from countries including Colombia, South Korea, Poland, Latvia, Switzerland, and Lithuania
Group C – up to age 18:
1st place (€1,000) and Diploma for Best Performance of the Compulsory Work by Kasparas Šerpytis: Chenaux Lyam Kaléo Gabriel (Switzerland)
2nd place (€700): Yael Ben Zaken (Israel)
3rd place (€500): Sin Jo Yap (Malaysia)
Diploma awarded to Maria Martin (Estonia)
The Association Art Without Borders Scholarship went to Yael Ben Zaken and Maria Martin
Professional Category
Group D – up to age 30:
1st place (€8,000), Best Performance of the Compulsory Work by Faustas Latėnas, plus a performance and recording session at Villa Casals in Spain: Liav Kerbel (Israel/Belgium)
2nd place (€4,000): Minje Song (South Korea), Artyom Ioanisyan (Armenia)
David Geringas Masterclasses at the Blackmore International Music Academy in Berlin awarded to Augustas Gocentas (Lithuania)
The junior category jury was chaired by Ramutė Kalnėnaitė and included Ivan Karizna, Krzysztof Karpeta, Marcel Johannes Kits, Denis Severin, Shirley Smart, and Razvan Suma.
The professional category jury was led by David Geringas. Other jury members were Rimantas Armonas, Andrzej Bauer, Enrico Bronzi, Michaela Fukačová, Jens Peter Maintz, and Jing Zhao.
