Rock Band Little Feat Releases New Album with Molly Tuttle and Robert Hunter

by Patria

Rock band Little Feat has released their latest studio album, Strike Up The Band. This is their first album since Scott Sharrard and Tony Leone joined the group. The album was released on May 11 through Hot Tomato Records. Their previous album, Sam’s Place, earned a GRAMMY nomination.

The band collaborated with bluegrass star Molly Tuttle and former Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter to create 13 new songs. Bill Payne, Little Feat’s co-founder, told Grateful Web that Hunter usually sent him the lyrics first when they worked together.

Little Feat’s music combines gritty New Orleans rhythms, country sounds, and jazz influences. Fans have enjoyed their style since the band formed in 1969. New listeners will likely appreciate the fresh tracks as well.

The band spent four intense days writing in New York. From this session came the song “4 Days of Heaven, 3 Days of Work.” Scott Sharrard said to Grateful Web, “Bill brought this title to Tony and me, and I knew right away that we would create something special.”

Their single “Bluegrass Pines” highlights Molly Tuttle on guitar, with Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams singing vocals. Robert Hunter co-wrote the song, inspired by ideas from Payne. Other tracks like “Too High to Cut My Hair,” “Dixie Chicken,” and “Fat Man in the Bathtub” also show the band’s unique sound.

The current lineup includes Payne on keyboards, Fred Tackett on guitar, Kenny Gradney on bass, and Sam Clayton on percussion. Sharrard joined in 2019 as lead guitarist, and Leone took over the drums in 2020.

Starting May 9, Little Feat will begin a tour from Montclair, New Jersey. The tour will end with a three-day music festival in Woodstock from August 30 to September 1. The band plans to record their next live album during the festival. This release adds to Little Feat’s rich history of 16 studio albums.

Fans can find all upcoming tour dates on the band’s official website.
