Sun Records: The Concert, a tribute to rock’n’roll’s golden era, will take place at Clacton’s West Cliff Theatre on June 27, starting at 7:30 pm. The show brings to life the hits of the 50s and 60s, celebrating the iconic stars of the era.
Sun Records, located in Memphis, is widely recognized as the birthplace of rock and roll. The studio is legendary for discovering music icons such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Roy Orbison.
This special performance was rehearsed in a replica of the famous Sun Records studio, ensuring an authentic experience for the audience.
Producer Pete Tobit commented, “In the 50s, Sun Studio was at the forefront, creating songs that set the foundation for rock’n’roll. Hits like ‘That’s Alright Mama,’ ‘Great Balls of Fire,’ ‘I Walk the Line,’ ‘Whole Lotta Shakin’,’ ‘Blue Suede Shoes,’ and ‘Good Rockin’ Tonight’ all started as Sun recordings.”
Tobit also highlighted the influence of Sun’s musical visionary, Sam Phillips, saying, “Phillips combined gospel, blues, hillbilly, country, boogie, and western swing to craft the sound we know today.”
The concert immerses the audience in the Sun Studio experience, allowing the music to speak for itself.
The show has earned official approval from Sun Entertainment Corporation. John Singleton, president of the corporation, shared his thoughts, saying, “Sun Records, The Concert is the only production officially endorsed by Sun Records. It captures the essence of how Sam Phillips recorded music – with the ‘perfect imperfection.’”
Singleton added, “The two-hour performance features music from legends like Jackie Brenston, Ike Turner, Rufus Thomas, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Roy Orbison. It’s a true celebration of rock’n’roll history. Don’t miss the chance to see the birth of rock’n’roll come alive on stage.”
