Boosie Badazz, known for his lively courtside appearances at NBA games, is now adding another title to his name: scholar. On May 10, the Louisiana rap star was awarded two honorary doctorate degrees by Kingdom Heritage University. One degree recognized his work in Music Composition, while the other was for Music Management.
Boosie’s graduation moment, captured in a cap and gown, quickly went viral across social media, symbolizing that anything is possible regardless of one’s past. From his struggles as a felon to rising as a rap star, Boosie has now earned the title of Doctor of Music Composition.
The rapper shared the news with his followers on Instagram, posting a video of himself walking across the stage to accept the degrees. He wrote in the caption: “They also named the music class at the college after me. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. Dr. Hatch. ‘I’m bout to get some business cards made. All this is God’s plan.’”
The connection between Boosie and the university had remained a mystery until the ceremony. The honor moved the rapper deeply, and he was visibly emotional. Bishop Dr. Michael Bates Sr. addressed him during the event, saying, “We are here to honor you. Your pain has not been wasted. Your platform has a purpose. Your legacy is just beginning. We know your name as Lil Boosie. Heaven will now know you as Dr. Hatch.”
Boosie expressed his gratitude to the university and fellow graduates, saying, “I just want to say thank you. I really appreciate it. I ain’t never been given anything like this. So I really appreciate it.”
Social media erupted with congratulations from fans. One user commented, “I’m so glad I was there to witness this… Congratulations Dr. Boosie BadAss Hatch.” Others praised the rapper’s legacy, writing, “This man has a legacy whether y’all accept him or not! He made it his own way. A Black entrepreneur from around the way should always be celebrated. Congratulations” and “Awwwww Boosie! Congratulations Dr. Hatch! May God bless you always!”
