Hip hop legend Jeru the Damaja will be performing at The Ferret in Preston as part of his 30th anniversary The Sun Rises in The East Tour. This milestone tour celebrates three decades of unforgettable performances across the globe.
From his roots in Brooklyn to stages around the world, Jeru has built a career known for both his immense talent and charismatic stage presence. He has a unique ability to blend humor with music, creating a performance that’s not only a concert but an entertaining experience for the audience. His energetic performances are summed up by his own words: “I love to rock!”
Jeru’s journey in hip hop began with his first appearance on Gang Starr’s Daily Operation album. This marked the start of a long and successful career that has seen Jeru shape the genre. His debut album, The Sun Rises in The East, remains a key milestone in hip hop, recently being named by Rolling Stone as one of the 200 greatest hip hop albums of all time, solidifying its lasting impact.
Matt Fawbert, General Manager of The Ferret, shared his excitement about the event: “Jeru isn’t just a performer; he’s a cultural icon. His 30-year journey from the streets of Brooklyn to global stardom is a testament to hip hop’s power to transform. Audiences don’t just watch a Jeru show—they experience it from start to finish.”
Joining Jeru on stage will be Mikey D.O.N., a UK hip hop legend who began his career in 1975 after getting his first turntable. Mikey co-founded the rap group KRISPY 3 in 1986 and was among the first UK acts to appear on BBC Radio 1 Sessions and gain significant airplay on Yo! MTV Raps. Today, he’s celebrated as a pioneer of UK hip hop.
The event will also feature guest MCs from the North West, including Lomax + Seek The Northerner, Peggy, and JustSean R.A. Live music will be provided by La French.
Ahead of the gig, there will be a late-afternoon beer garden session hosted by Jazzin The Park DJs, and the night will end with an after-party featuring Big Things DJs and special guests.
