Legendary Rock Band The Who Announces Farewell Tour After Six Decades

by Patria

Legendary rock band The Who has announced their final North American tour, marking the end of a six-decade musical journey. The band, known for iconic hits like “Baba O’Riley,” “My Generation,” and “Behind Blue Eyes,” was formed in 1964 and originally featured Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon.

At 81, lead singer Daltrey reflected on the band’s success, recalling that in the early 1960s, every musician dreamed of breaking into the U.S. charts. “For The Who, that dream came true in 1967, and our lives were changed forever,” he said. “Rock gave us a feeling of generational rebellion.”

Pete Townshend, 79, the other remaining member of the original lineup, expressed excitement about the tour. “Roger and I are in a good place, despite our age, and we’re eager to give a proper farewell to our loyal fans,” he said. Townshend also hopes the tour will attract some new listeners curious about the band’s legacy after 57 years in the business.

Daltrey confirmed that the band would perform their classic tracks “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Baba O’Riley,” and “Behind Blue Eyes.” However, the rest of the setlist will feature a variety of songs. The tour, named “The Song Is Over” after a 1971 track the band had never played live until recently, is set for August and September.

Townshend described the tour name as particularly meaningful. “Roger always comes up with great names for tours, but I think this one is quite poignant,” he said.

While the duo was unable to confirm plans for a similar tour in the UK or Europe, they noted that the demands of touring are taking a toll. Daltrey shared that his doctor has advised him to take breaks between shows. “I’ve been told to take a day off after each gig and two days off after every three performances,” he explained.

The Who’s farewell tour is set to be a memorable send-off for the legendary band.
