The BBC Concert Orchestra has been appointed as the first-ever Associate Orchestra at Alexandra Palace. This new partnership will also allow the BBC to expand its outreach work. The orchestra will take part in the venue’s Creative Learning programme, which offers educational opportunities to local communities.
Matthew Swann, Director of the BBC Concert Orchestra, called the appointment an “absolute honor.”
“It’s a great privilege to be named the first Associate Orchestra at Alexandra Palace and to continue the strong relationship the BBC has with this historic venue,” Swann said. “As the regular London host of Friday Night is Music Night, I’m excited to welcome audiences to Ally Pally and continue delivering top-quality orchestral music, whether in the theatre or on BBC Radio 3. We’ll also keep bringing classical music to venues around the UK and maintain our performances at the Southbank Centre through Unclassified Live, including appearances at the Multitude Festival.”
Alexandra Palace CEO Emma Dagnes OBE said the partnership marks a major milestone in the venue’s 150-year history.
“We’re thrilled that the BBC Concert Orchestra is joining us as our first Associate Orchestra,” Dagnes said. “Their excellence in bringing music to global audiences makes them the perfect partner for this important moment.”
Dagnes added that while the Palace hosts hundreds of performances each year, having the orchestra as a regular presence will bring something new.
“This partnership opens up exciting creative possibilities,” she said. “It fulfills a long-standing goal to offer great entertainment and culture to everyone. It also builds on our innovative history with the BBC. We look forward to welcoming the Orchestra and their team to the Palace.”
