Super Bowl 2025 kicked off with an emotional and unexpected tribute as Lady Gaga took center stage in the heart of Bourbon Street, New Orleans. The renowned artist, celebrated for her stunning Super Bowl National Anthem performance, captivated the audience with a soulful rendition of her song “Hold My Hand,” performed on a sleek black piano. Gaga was joined by a choir, a blues band, and a group of first responders wearing “NOLA Strong” shirts, symbolizing the city’s resilience.
The tribute came amidst New Orleans’ ongoing recovery from the tragic New Year’s Day terror attack, which killed 14 people and injured 30 others when a pickup truck was driven into pedestrians on Bourbon Street. The attack, carried out by Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old Texas native and Army veteran, marked the deadliest act of terror in the United States since the October 2023 mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine.
Michael Strahan, who co-hosted the Super Bowl coverage with Tom Brady, acknowledged the city’s strength in the face of tragedy. “This year began with a terror attack that tried to shatter its spirit,” Strahan said. “But the resilience of New Orleans is matched by the resolve of our country.” Lady Gaga’s performance provided a powerful reminder of both the city’s unwavering determination and the collective strength of its people.
