Japanese Breakfast made a captivating appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to showcase their melancholic new single, “Orlando in Love.” Led by Michelle Zauner, the performance was enriched by a four-piece string section, complementing the song’s evocative, moody atmosphere—a reflection of its poignant music video.
“Orlando in Love” serves as the lead single from the band’s highly anticipated fourth album, For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women), set for release on March 21 via Dead Oceans. This marks the group’s first album since their Grammy-nominated Jubilee in 2021 and Zauner’s memoir, Crying in H Mart. The upcoming 10-track album will also feature “Men in Bars,” a collaboration with actor Jeff Bridges.
Zauner also touched on the status of the film adaptation of Crying in H Mart, revealing that the project is currently on hold due to complications with Hollywood strikes and the departure of the director. “I still have faith it will get made someday, but it’s not happening anytime soon,” Zauner said.
As for the band, Japanese Breakfast will embark on a spring tour in support of the new album, including performances at Coachella in April, as well as stops in New York, San Francisco, Toronto, and Philadelphia. The tour will wrap up in St. Paul, Minnesota, on September 9.
