Mac McAnally, a longtime friend and collaborator of the late Jimmy Buffett, made his debut at Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium this weekend, honoring Buffett’s legacy with a heartfelt performance. Though Buffett never had the chance to headline the legendary venue, McAnally made it clear that his spirit was present throughout the evening.
The prolific singer-songwriter was joined by country music star Kenny Chesney for a moving rendition of Buffett’s beloved track “Come Monday.” The performance, which also featured James Taylor, was part of a tribute to Buffett following his posthumous induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
McAnally and Chesney later shared the stage again for another tribute, delivering a poignant version of “A Pirate Looks at Forty,” a song they had previously performed together at the 2023 CMA Awards as part of an emotional salute to Buffett. The evening was both a tribute to one of McAnally’s closest friends and a celebration of his own remarkable career as one of country music’s most revered songwriters.
