Finnish melodic death metal band Eternal Tears of Sorrow has announced the end of its career after nearly 30 years. Formed in Pudasjärvi in 1994, the band officially confirmed their decision to disband, citing no internal conflicts or drama, but a mutual agreement among the founders—guitarist Jarmo Puolakanaho and bassist-singer Altti Veteläinen.
Having been on hiatus since 2023, the band’s closure marks the end of a remarkable journey that saw them release seven albums between 1997 and 2013, including Sinner’s Serenade, Chaotic Beauty, and Saivon Lapsi. Despite no plans for farewell events or a compilation release, the band leaves behind a dedicated fan base worldwide, with fans expressing their fondness and nostalgia on social media. Throughout their career, they toured 13 countries, making a lasting impact on the global metal scene.
