Six years after his passing, Pittsburgh rap music star Mac Miller has made a posthumous return to the Billboard 200’s top tier with Balloonerism, an album that features 14 tracks originally crafted in 2014. The album debuted at No. 3, marking Miller’s eighth entry into the top five with 81,000 equivalent album units earned.
Balloonerism is Miller’s second posthumous release, following Circles, which also debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in 2020. The album was released under the guidance of his estate, who shared that Balloonerism held significant importance to the late artist. The estate revealed in a November post that Miller had personally commissioned artwork for the album and had regular discussions about its release, though ultimately GO:OD AM and other projects took precedence.
In addition to the album’s success, Miller’s music continues to thrive on the charts, with four tracks landing on this week’s Hot 100: “Funny Papers” at No. 77, the Jan. 17 single “5 Dollar Pony Rides” at No. 85, “DJ’s Chord Organ” featuring SZA at No. 95, and “Stoned” at No. 97.
