Country music star Kelsea Ballerini is stepping into the role of a coach on The Voice, and she’s taking a moment to reflect on the impact another iconic coach, Kelly Clarkson, has had on her journey. In a conversation with fellow coaches Adam Levine, John Legend, and Michael Bublé, Ballerini shared how Clarkson’s influence has been a constant throughout her career.
Ballerini recalled a pivotal moment when she attended Clarkson’s Behind These Hazel Eyes tour in Knoxville. “She had these two video screens above her stage of her eyes the whole show,” Ballerini explained. “Depending on the song, they would close, they would cry, they would wink, or whatever.” At the time, Ballerini was young and unsure of her path, but Clarkson’s performance ignited something within her. “I was at the age where I knew I loved music, but I was like, ‘Do I want to do this? I don’t know how to, but I think I really love this.’”
Clarkson’s influence, according to Ballerini, marked the beginning of her musical career, and she credits the singer as the one who “started it all” for her. Now, as a coach herself, Ballerini is embracing her role while acknowledging the lasting inspiration of Clarkson’s artistry.
