Nicki Minaj has pulled out of a performance at the Jingle Ball to give herself time to finish her new album.

The 40-year-old rapper was due to take to the stage at the festive event in Chicago, Illinois on Monday (23Dec12) but canceled her appearance at the last minute, explaining she needed more time to focus on the launch of her album ‘Pink Friday 2’, which has already been delayed twice.

In a post on X – formerly known as Twitter – she wrote: “I have something to tell you. One last thing. I hope it doesn’t make you sad. I won’t be able to perform tmrw in #Chicago for Jingle Ball. I was so excited to see you guys. Please accept my sincerest apologies. I’ll make it up to you on the Chicago stops of my tour early next year. Details to come”.

However, Nicki did confirm that her pal Lil Wayne has agreed to step in and perform in her place. She added: “My beloved brother/boss has stepped in for me so I don’t have to postpone my album. His name is Lil Wayne aka the GOAT. He will be performing tmrw @ the Chicago show.

“I’m STILL performing @ the #Atlanta Jingle Ball on the 14th and now I’m ALSO performing at the #Miami Jingle Ball on the 16th. Album STILL drops this FRIDAY.”

Pink Friday 2″ was originally scheduled for release in October, but was pushed back to November 17th. Then, in order to avoid a clash with Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz’s joint album ‘Welcome 2 Collegegrove’, it was delayed again with a new release date of December 8th.

At the time, Nicki explained during an appearance on Instagram Live: “I changed my album date. It’s been a behind-the-scenes change for a while now. Weezy [Lil Wayne] and 2 Chainz, they came out with their date and you know how me and Weezy play. If that was my album date, he would never do that.
