‘It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back’: Public Enemy to Re-Release Second Album

Public Enemy will re-release their 1988 second album ‘It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back’.

That’s right, it’s been 35 years since Chuck D and Flavor Flav founded the group in 1985, and they’re celebrating the anniversary and 50 years of HipHop with a new vinyl release.

In a statement, Chuck D said: “Thanks to Run-DMC, LL Cool J and Whodini, we knew that hip-hop albums on cassette could explode. Around that same time, Hank was running a record label and was talking about how rock bands like Iron Maiden, Rolling Stones and even Bruce Springsteen had taken advantage of that album concept.

“So we took that and went further with ‘It Takes a Nation’ and approached it like a rock band. It ended up being part of rap’s evolution from a singles-driven genre to the dawn of rap’s album age.

Pubic Enemy frontman Chuck D recently narrated a new docu-drama series, “Can You Dig It? A Hip-Hop Origin Story” over five 30-minute episodes.

In the series, Chuck D discusses how hip-hop came to be in the late 60’s/early 70’s in the Bronx, New York.
