Kendrick Lamar and SZA made history with their hit song “luther,” setting a new standard for hip-hop. Their collaboration topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 13 consecutive weeks, breaking the previous record for a hip-hop track held by Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” which led the chart for 12 straight weeks.

“Luther” was also the first duet between a solo male and female artist to stay at number one for 11 or more weeks. Despite these achievements, their impressive run has now come to an end.

Country star Morgan Wallen and Canadian pop singer Tate McRae have taken over the top spot with their new song, “What I Want.” The track is part of Wallen’s latest album, I’m The Problem, which was released on May 16. The album has been a major success, as Wallen now holds six of the top 10 spots on the Hot 100.

In fact, Wallen has made history himself. He is the first country artist to hold the top three spots on the Hot 100 at the same time. All 37 tracks from I’m The Problem have entered the Hot 100, setting a new record for most songs by one artist on the chart at once.

As a result, Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “luther” has dropped to number five. While “What I Want” now leads the chart, it remains to be seen if it can match the remarkable milestones set by “luther.” For Wallen, this marks his fourth number-one song on the Hot 100.

The setbacks continue for Kendrick Lamar. At the 51st American Music Awards held last night, he won just one award out of six nominations. He lost in major categories including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Favorite Hip-Hop Artist, and Favorite Hip-Hop Album.

However, he did take home the award for Favorite Hip-Hop Song with “Not Like Us.” Eminem won the other two hip-hop categories, while Billie Eilish claimed victory in the top three overall categories where Kendrick was also nominated.

Despite the recent losses, Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s achievement with “luther” remains a historic moment in hip-hop and pop music.
