Universal Music New Zealand Announces Change in Leadership

Universal Music New Zealand (UMNZ) has announced a leadership transition, with Myra Hemara and Matt Kidd appointed as Co-Managing Directors, effective May 1, 2025. They will report directly to Sean Warner, who praised outgoing leader Adam Holt for his dedication and impact on the company and the wider New Zealand music industry.

Adam Holt’s Legacy

Sean Warner expressed gratitude for Holt’s contributions, stating, “Adam’s commitment to our company, our artists, and the broader New Zealand music industry has been exemplary. Throughout his tenure, he fostered a positive culture at UMNZ and UMA, earning deep respect from employees and artists alike. His passion, mentorship, and professionalism have left a lasting legacy across UMG, the artist community, and industry partners worldwide.”

Reflecting on his tenure, Holt described leading UMNZ as “the experience of my life.” He acknowledged the achievements and challenges faced over the years and thanked Sir Lucian Grainge and Sean Warner for their trust. He also expressed gratitude to the Universal Music teams in New Zealand and Australia.

New Leadership Team

Warner highlighted the strength of the new leadership team, which will include UMNZ Chief Financial Officer & Commercial Director Tony Jenks. Together, they aim to drive a new era of success for Universal Music New Zealand.

Myra Hemara, who joined UMNZ in 2006, played a key role in establishing the label’s digital strategy. She later led international artist marketing and audience development as General Manager in 2017.

“Leading Universal Music New Zealand with Matt is a great honor,” Hemara said. “Adam’s legacy has built a strong foundation, and I look forward to fostering a culture of connection, creativity, and collaboration while supporting our talented artists.”

Matt Kidd, who has been with UMNZ for 12 years, started his career in promotions and public relations before taking on leadership roles in domestic repertoire and business development. As General Manager since 2017, he has focused on expanding New Zealand talent internationally.

“I’m excited to take on this role at such a transformative time in the industry,” Kidd said. “The ways we can work with and develop artists are evolving rapidly. It’s an honor to lead alongside Myra and be part of the best team in the country, driving excellence and innovation for our artists in New Zealand and globally.”
