Diane Warren, the renowned songwriter, has once again fallen short at the Oscars, marking her 16th loss in the Best Original Song category. This year, she was nominated for “The Journey” from Tyler Perry’s Netflix film The Six Triple Eight. The award went to the married duo Clément Ducol and Camille for their song “El Mal” from Emilia Pérez.
Warren, now 68, holds the record for the most Oscar nominations by a female songwriter, surpassing the late Marilyn Bergman’s 15 nominations. Her streak of eight consecutive nominations continues, adding to her previous eight nominations, starting with “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” in 1987.
Despite her lack of an Oscar win, Warren has been recognized with an honorary Oscar in 2022. She has also won numerous other prestigious awards, including a Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globes, Ivor Novello, and Billboard Music Awards. Warren’s impressive career includes writing nine US No. 1 songs and 33 top-10 hits, such as Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time,” Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me,” and Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.”
Greg P. Russell, a sound mixer, still holds the record for the most Oscar nominations without a win, with 17 nominations. However, he was not nominated this year.
Warren’s perseverance and continued nominations highlight her enduring impact on the music industry, even as she remains one of the most nominated individuals without an Oscar win.
