In celebration of Valentine’s week, Amor with No B.S., an innovative off-Broadway production, premiered at The Flea Theater in Manhattan on February 11. The 45-minute performance reimagines Shakespeare’s classic works through a Gen-Z Latin lens, offering a fresh take on love, identity, and culture.
Starring Diego Echeverria, Sofía Vilches, Eli Vazquez, and Bralmarys Batista, the production weaves elements from iconic Shakespeare plays like Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, and Hamlet. The show stands out for its vibrant humor and relevance to modern Latin experiences, addressing the complexities of love and identity in a multicultural world.
A particularly memorable moment featured Vilches blending Bad Bunny’s hit song “Tití Me Preguntó” into Shakespearean verse, showcasing the fluidity between timeless themes and the contemporary lives of young Latin audiences.
Produced by Roberto Sneider, directed by Estefanía Fadul, and written by Matt Barber, Amor with No B.S. pushes the boundaries of Shakespeare’s traditional form, adding a layer of cultural nuance. The show is supported by Chispa, a Latin-centric dating app, which is also behind the Amor with No B.S. campaign.
Julia Estacolchic, head of brand and marketing at Chispa, explained, “Reimagining Shakespeare from a Latine perspective isn’t just about modernizing a classic — it’s about empowering young Latino singles to embrace their cultural identities and redefine love on their own terms.”
