Blue Cactus, the North Carolina-based alt-country music band, has released their latest single, “This Kind of Rain,” which opens with the powerful line, “Everyone says when it rains it pours / I ain’t seen this kind of rain before.” The poignant lyrics resonate deeply in today’s challenging times, but for singer Steph Stewart, the song draws from a personal battle in 2021.
At the time, Stewart was facing a whirlwind of professional and creative struggles, alongside a series of mysterious health issues. After fearing she might have inherited her mother’s Lupus, she sought medical attention, ultimately being diagnosed with uterine fibroids and Raynaud’s Syndrome.
Stewart describes the song as one of those rare compositions that flowed effortlessly from her, inspired by the emotions she carried through her struggles. “It just wrote itself the instant I sat down with my guitar,” she recalled. “This Kind of Rain” stands as a heartfelt expression of her personal journey, from adversity to the healing of her spirit.
