British-Japanese artist Miso Extra has offered a glimpse into her much-anticipated debut album with the release of Certified, a hypnotic synth-house-inspired pop track. The single, which she describes as a reflection on the stubborn determination of seduction, further expands the immersive world she calls the “Misoverse.”
Alongside the single, Miso Extra officially announced her debut full-length project, Earcandy, set for release on May 16 via Transgressive Records. The album was crafted during the summer of 2024 at Damon Albarn’s Studio 13, with Grammy-winning engineer Ricky Damian (Ezra Collective, Jorja Smith, Sampha) at the helm. Earcandy solidifies Miso Extra’s reputation as a dynamic and confident artist, capable of transforming creative spontaneity into an auditory experience that demands attention.
Certified follows her recent track Good Kisses featuring Metronomy, which earned high praise from Joseph Mount, as well as Slow Down, a UK garage-infused anthem co-written and produced with DJ Boring. The album is rich with collaborations, including contributions from A.K. Paul, MICHELLE, and Tyson. Visual storytelling also plays a key role, with Chinese-Indonesian filmmaker and photographer Claryn Chong shaping the album’s aesthetic identity.
Miso Extra is emerging as a groundbreaking musical force, filling the void she once felt growing up. With Earcandy, she offers just a taste of what’s to come—a bold evolution of her genre-blending, instinctual sound that is sure to leave listeners craving more.
