After nearly three decades of chart-topping hits and pop-punk anthems, Sum 41 is officially calling it quits. Frontman Deryck Whibley reflects on the band’s legacy and the surprising decision to end it all.

“It’s starting to feel like the end,” Whibley admits, acknowledging the finality of the band’s last tour, Tour of the Setting Sum. After a year-long world tour and the release of their final album Heaven :X: Hell, the Canadian band has made a mark with renewed chart success, including the No. 1 hits “Landmines” and “Dopamine” in 2024.

While Whibley had no initial plans for an end, the internal pull to move forward came as a surprise, even to him and his bandmates. Their final performance is set for January 30 at the Scotiabank Arena in their hometown of Toronto.

Reflecting on their journey, Whibley also touched on personal and professional challenges, including shocking allegations against former manager Greig Nori. Despite the ups and downs, Sum 41’s enduring impact on the pop-punk genre remains undeniable.
