Luke O’Shea, a celebrated figure in Australian country music, has been inducted into the Tamworth Country Music Festival’s prestigious Galaxy of Stars. The surprise announcement was made yesterday afternoon by Tamworth Mayor Russell Webb, recognizing O’Shea’s significant contributions to the genre.
In an emotional acceptance speech, O’Shea expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and the broader country music community.
“Thank you, this is so important to me – I’m glad I wore my good thongs,” he quipped, blending humor with heartfelt sincerity.
Reflecting on his career, O’Shea emphasized the importance of storytelling in country music. “It’s our stories that we love to hear, and I’m just playing a role, which I am very fortunate, proud, and honored to do, surrounded by friends and family,” he said.
He also highlighted the unique camaraderie within the country music scene. “This is a community that I’m honored to be a part of. The thought of doing what I love, sharing it with you all, and building bonds through music is incredibly rewarding,” O’Shea shared.
Acknowledging the legacy of the Tamworth Country Music Festival, O’Shea praised its role in supporting artists. “To all the pioneers who came before us, I’m so grateful to Tamworth and what they’ve built here. A special thanks to Tamworth Council for their tireless efforts in creating a festival unlike any other in the world.”
The singer-songwriter, a 16-time Golden Guitar winner, vowed to continue his passion for music. “I’m proud to just be singing it up, and I will continue to do so. Thank you for this accolade. It’s incredibly humbling.”
O’Shea’s illustrious career includes nine albums and a nomination for the CMT Video of the Year Award at this year’s Golden Guitars, set to take place on Saturday. Additionally, he serves as an ambassador for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service, and he will ride in their vehicle during Sunday’s Cavalcade.
With his induction, O’Shea cements his legacy as one of the most influential figures in Australian country music, inspiring audiences and artists alike.
