The surprise announcement was made yesterday afternoon by Tamworth Mayor Russell Webb, recognizing O’Shea’s significant contributions to the genre.

Acknowledging the legacy of the Tamworth Country Music Festival, O’Shea praised its role in supporting artists. “To all the pioneers who came before us, I’m so grateful to Tamworth and what they’ve built here. A special thanks to Tamworth Council for their tireless efforts in creating a festival unlike any other in the world.”

The singer-songwriter, a 16-time Golden Guitar winner, vowed to continue his passion for music. “I’m proud to just be singing it up, and I will continue to do so. Thank you for this accolade. It’s incredibly humbling.”

O’Shea’s illustrious career includes nine albums and a nomination for the CMT Video of the Year Award at this year’s Golden Guitars, set to take place on Saturday. Additionally, he serves as an ambassador for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service, and he will ride in their vehicle during Sunday’s Cavalcade.
