Rising country music singer-songwriter Susannah Clegg, hailing from Lancaster, is set to release her debut EP, The Road is Only Miles, on February 1. The EP features five original tracks, including a cover of the Merle Travis classic Sixteen Tons. Fans can stream and download the EP starting next month.
To celebrate the release, Clegg will perform at The Quarterhouse in Lancaster on February 2. Reflecting on her music, Clegg shared that country and Americana genres are unique in their ability to tell deeply emotional stories that resonate through time. “Country music can capture raw emotions like nostalgia, sorrow, and loss, while remaining as relatable today as it was a century ago,” she said.
The EP’s title track, Walked This Road, embodies the uncertainty of life on the road and the longing for home. Meanwhile, Tess draws inspiration from Thomas Hardy’s novel Tess of the D’Urbervilles, reimagining its themes through the soulful lens of country music.
