Grass Valley, CA — InConcert Sierra will conclude its 2024–25 season with a highly anticipated performance by the world-renowned Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The concert is set for Friday, June 13, at 7:30 p.m. and will feature four acclaimed musicians: pianist Wu Han, violinist Chad Hoopes, violist Matt Lipman, and cellist Nicholas Canellakis.
The evening program will span a broad musical spectrum, presenting works that showcase the depth and beauty of the chamber music tradition. Audiences will hear Beethoven’s Piano Trio in E-flat Major, Op. 1, No. 1, Jean Françaix’s String Trio, and Dvořák’s Piano Quartet in E-flat Major. Each piece reflects the unique style of its composer while contributing to a cohesive and engaging concert experience.
“This Beethoven trio is not just lively—it’s historic,” said Wu Han. “It’s one of the most important piano trios in chamber music.” She explained that Beethoven’s work helped shape the future of the genre, influencing composers like Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and Dvořák.
The program also includes Jean Françaix’s Trio for Violin, Viola, and Cello, a witty and spirited composition from the 20th-century French master known for his playful musical language. The concert concludes with Dvořák’s Piano Quartet, which blends folk-inspired melodies with the rich, lyrical style of Romantic-era music.
Wu Han, who also serves as co-artistic director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, is widely recognized for her vibrant performance style and dedication to chamber music. “All of the musicians performing are CMS superstars,” she said.
This concert is part of InConcert Sierra’s Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Residency Series—a collaborative effort that brings elite classical musicians to local stages. According to BBC Radio 3, “The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center is prestigious beyond belief.”
Executive Director Julie Hardin emphasized the importance of this collaboration. “We’re incredibly proud to be one of only twelve CMS residencies in the country—and the only one in California,” she said. “This partnership helps secure a strong future for InConcert Sierra while honoring the amazing talent in our community.”
A free pre-concert forum will be offered at 6:45 p.m. for those interested in learning more about the performers and the program. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
