For those who appreciate French language and music, the Embassy of France to Trinidad and Tobago, in partnership with the Alliance Française, is hosting a special French Classical Music Concert. The event will take place at the Central Bank Auditorium in Port of Spain on April 30 at 6 p.m.
All proceeds from the concert will support the NiNa Young Women’s Leadership Programme. This initiative offers courses in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, art, wellness, personal development, and other life skills to empower young women in the State care system transitioning to adulthood. For the past eight years, the programme has helped young women from various State agencies.
The concert will showcase two of Trinidad and Tobago’s finest talents. Internationally-acclaimed soprano Natalia Dopwell, known for her solo vocals in Fortune for All (the winner of the 2023 Trinidad+Tobago Film Festival), will perform. Dopwell’s performance in the film, directed by Yao Ramesar, contributed to the film’s multiple international awards.
She will be accompanied by Enrique Ali, a leading classical musician in Trinidad and Tobago, praised both locally and internationally for his deep musical sensitivity and interpretations.
The audience can expect performances of operatic pieces by renowned French composers such as Charles Gounod, known for his operas Faust and Romeo and Juliette, and Claude Debussy, famous for works like Dance bohémienne and Trio en sol majeur.
The concert will also feature the music of Reynaldo Hahn, a 19th-century French composer of Venezuelan origin. Dopwell and Ali will also perform songs by Charles Trenet, the celebrated French singer and composer who wrote over 1,000 pieces, including iconic songs such as La Mer and Boum!
